STORY
Building on the events of season one, a notorious professor and those in her orbit are forced again to examine their various roles, this time in the context as both victim and aggressor in the wake of an explosive allegation made by Ward’s former student. As events unfold, we see through their sex lives that each character’s situation serves as a microcosm of the greater social pressures around them. Also starring Manuel Ferrara, with Avery Christy, Ivy Wolfe, Aubrey Kate, Lulu Chu, Mona Wales, Vanna Bardot, Destiny Cruz, Jessie Saint, Anton Harden, Pierce Paris, Quinton James, Will Pounder, Rob Piper, Danny Mountain, Alex Jones and Jay Smooth joining the cast in this second season and featuring returning appearances from Lena Paul, A.J., Seth Gamble, and Robby Echo. "Muse is an intensely personal project for me. The first season was written in a fevered four day stint that all sort of blended together after I was sent back to the drawing board when a different project I’d been working on was shown to be too limited by the Covid restrictions newly in place. It was born of the many pressures I felt at the time—that of the mother and the daughter and the wife and the sex-worker-turned-director as everyone was looking to me for answers on what we would do next. From there, each of these roles were splintered into a character, with Lena as the mother, Scarlit as the daughter, Adriana as the wife, and Maitland as the notorious leading role who charges forward even as she’s still figuring it out too. Setting the story in this same pandemic environment allowed us to lean into the restrictions we were facing, and I loved the University as such a literal home base for the characters as they were trying to learn how to live with their roles."
"Muse Season 2 was a longer process and grew from the same personal struggles I’d faced myself and watched others face over the course of such an antagonistic year. Every relationship was newly seen through the lens of either victim or oppressor, and I wanted to explore the fallout of what it means to accuse someone, as well as how the characters get there in the first place and how these roles are never binary. You can move from being the oppressed to the oppressor in the span of a breath. Once again, our characters were forced to examine their roles as Maitland pushed forward with a new project, but this time they were less concrete, with each character slipping back and forth as if trying to find balance on a ship at sea."
